About Rockhampton Airport (ROK)
Address: Terminal Building Rockhampton Airport, Rockhampton Airport, Rockhampton, 4700, Qld, Qld
Rockhampton Airport, located 5km from the Rockhampton city centre (CBD), is a major Australian regional airport serving the city of Rockhampton and Central Queensland.
Rockhampton, known as the Beef Capital, is in a central position on the Queensland coast, and a great starting point for a road trip. The attractive city is filled with historical architecture and boasts a warm climate all year round. It is in the heart of the Fitzroy Basin, Australia’s second largest river system, close to stunning beaches and bordered by the impressive Berserker Mountain Ranges.
Three major roads lead out of Rockhampton. To the north is Highway One heading to the tropical sandy beaches of northern Queensland and to the south you will find Bundaberg. The A4 route to the west takes you inland where the real adventure awaits you if you have a 4WD.
Rockhampton airport is a short 10 minutes’ drive to the centre of Rockhampton. Public transport is not easily available, so an airport car rental is by far the best option for visitors who wish to explore the region.
Rockhampton Airport has a modern and comfortable passenger terminal. The car hire customer service desks are located opposite the baggage carousels at the southern end of the terminal and the car parks are just outside the terminal.
Roads are rarely gridlocked, making driving in the area very pleasant. Parking inside the city is available in the numerous multi-storey car parks and at metered parking along the roads.

Tips and advice
Keep an eye out for livestock and wildlife on or at the side of the road, especially at night.
Make sure to take regular rest breaks during long drives. Being tired behind the wheel is one of the biggest safety risks for drivers in Australia.
Speed limits are heavily enforced and fined in Australia, particularly around peak holiday and travel periods. And never handle your mobile while driving.
Slow down near railway crossings and be alert for signals and signs. Remember that many railway level crossings do not have boom gates.
Service stations and roadside cafes may close overnight, even on major regional roads. Be prepared before undertaking a night trip.
Many of the road surfaces are gravel (unsealed) and can severely affect driving. Dry weather can create dusty conditions and limit your visibility, whereas wet weather can make roads muddy and slippery.
