  Getting around

Australia’s Sunshine Coast stretches over 60 glorious miles (100 km) from the Cooloola Coast in the north to Caloundra near Brisbane in southern Queensland. As the Sunshine Coast Noosa Airport (MCY), previously known as Maroochydore Airport, is located on the northern end of the beautiful stretch of the Sunshine Coast, it provides the ideal gateway to a host of coastal resorts, gorgeous beaches, and popular holiday attractions.

As the attractions along the Sunshine Coast such as the Big Pineapple, Noosa National Park and the Australia Zoo tend to be spread out the best way to get around is by hire car. Most of the Sunshine Coast’s best hotspots can be found within just a couple hours’ drive.

Driving from the airport, it’s just a six-mile drive (10 km) to Maroochydore, the heart of the Sunshine Coast, with its excellent beaches, restaurants, bars, and shops. Alternatively, you can reach Maloolaba in just nine miles (15 km), Caloundra in 17 miles (28 km), Noosa in 25 miles (40 km) and Brisbane in 70 miles (112 km).

  Choosing your car

Airport car rental desks can be found inside the arrivals hall of the Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY) terminal. You’ll find a representative from most of the main car rental companies here, such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, and Enterprise. While it’s recommended that you book your car hire in advance for the best choice and prices, you can still hire a car on the day you arrive should you need to.

The car hire fleet has vehicles of all shapes and sizes, from compact cars, luxury and family cars to four-wheel drive vehicles and minivans. There is a choice of manual and automatic drive. Pick up the keys for a zippy 5-door Suzuki compact, enjoy the luxury of cruise-control with a Toyota Camry, or opt for more space for the kids with an 8-seater Kia people-carrier.
